Quick answers
- Is the 2025-P Ida B. Wells Quarter rare?
- Not by date: 166 million were struck. A sharp uncirculated coin or a known variety is what makes one special.
- Is the 2025-P Ida B. Wells Quarter silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2025 American Women Quarter?
- On the obverse (P, D or S). On this coin the mark is P, for Philadelphia.
- How many 2025-P Ida B. Wells Quarter coins were made?
- 166,200,000.
What to check on your 2025-P
- Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2025-D (143 million made).
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Modern quarters are graded on luster, strike and marks. Proofs are judged on cameo contrast.
With 166 million made, the 2025-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.
The story of the 2025-P Ida B. Wells
Philadelphia made 166,200,000 of the Ida B. Wells quarter. Among the 5 designs of 2025 it was the second largest Philadelphia run, between Stacey Milbern (95 million) and Juliette Gordon Low (200 million).
Denver struck a similar number of the same design (143 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.
Across the whole program it sits 7th of 20 Philadelphia designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Althea Gibson at 35 million.
Elsewhere in US coinage in 2025
The Treasury announced the end of penny production for circulation and the last circulating cents were struck in Philadelphia in November 2025. It was also the final year of the American Women quarters.
How to recognize it
The Ida B. Wells design
Born into slavery in Holly Springs, Mississippi, Ida B. Wells (1862 to 1931) became a pioneering investigative journalist. After three of her friends were lynched in Memphis in 1892, she documented lynching across the South in pamphlets such as Southern Horrors. She was among the founders of the NAACP in 1909 and organized the Alpha Suffrage Club in Chicago in 1913. The reverse shows Wells gazing proudly forward above the words JOURNALIST, SUFFRAGIST, CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST. Elana Hagler designed it and Phebe Hemphill sculpted it.
The American Women Quarter design
The obverse shows a new portrait of George Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser, originally submitted in the 1931 design competition. Each reverse honors a woman who shaped American history, with her name and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR. Five honorees were issued each year from 2022 to 2025.
