About WePlayCoins
WePlayCoins is a free reference for United States coins. We cover 4,227 individual issues across 61 design series, from the 1793 Flowing Hair cent to the final circulating cents of 2025 and we built a set of simple tools, including our 3D coin flipper, that people use every day.
How the coin pages are built
Every coin page combines three kinds of information:
- Mintages come from US Mint production figures as compiled in Wikipedia's mintage tables, which cite the Mint and A Guide Book of United States Coins. Where the Mint did not record a figure, we say so rather than guess.
- Series without a Wikipedia table (Draped Bust, Capped Bust, Seated Liberty, Barber and Mercury dimes, the half dimes and the Susan B. Anthony dollar) use US Mint figures as published in standard references. Every figure was checked against at least two independent sources (for example PCGS CoinFacts, NGC and the Bowers reference listings) and only the numbers were taken, never text.
- Specifications such as composition, weight, diameter, edge, designers and mint-mark locations come from US Mint records and standard references, maintained by hand in our catalog.
- Metal content, meaning grams of each metal and troy ounces of pure silver, is calculated from each coin's official weight and alloy. These are fixed facts. We deliberately do not print metal prices, because they change every day; our calculators let you enter today's spot price yourself.
Rarity ratings
The five-step value band on each coin page (face value, metal value, small premium, collector premium, significant rarity) is based on the coin's metal and on how many were struck compared with the rest of its series. It is a guide, not a price: survival rates, condition and collector demand also matter and some high-mintage coins are scarce in top grades.
What we don't do
We do not buy, sell or appraise coins and we do not publish retail price guides. For an exact market value, compare recent sold auction results for coins in the same certified grade, or consult a reputable dealer.
Illustrations
Where a page has no photograph, the coin shown is an original stylized illustration created for WePlayCoins. It indicates the metal, date and mint mark but is not a photograph of the actual coin.
