What is a 2023-P Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter worth?

A worn 2023-P Eleanor Roosevelt is a spender: face value. A bright uncirculated one, or one with a known error, is worth setting aside.

What would make yours worth more:

  • Uncirculated condition with full original luster
  • A die variety or minting error

What to check on your 2023-P

  • Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2023-D (272 million made).
  • Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2023-S Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter Proof (507,120 made) is the one to compare with.
  • A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
  • Judge the grade under good light. Modern quarters are graded on luster, strike and marks. Proofs are judged on cameo contrast.

With 284 million made, the 2023-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.

The story of the 2023-P Eleanor Roosevelt

Philadelphia made 284,000,000 of the Eleanor Roosevelt quarter. Among the 5 designs of 2023 it was the middle Philadelphia run, between Jovita Idar (191 million) and Bessie Coleman (302 million).

Denver struck a similar number of the same design (272 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.

Across the whole program it's one of the most plentiful Philadelphia designs.

How to recognize it

The Eleanor Roosevelt design

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 to 1962) served as First Lady from 1933 to 1945 and used the role to champion civil rights, working people and the poor. After World War II she became a delegate to the United Nations and chaired its Commission on Human Rights. Under her leadership the commission drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in December 1948. The reverse shows her beside the scales of justice set against a globe, inscribed UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. Don Everhart designed it and Craig A. Campbell sculpted it.

The American Women Quarter design

The obverse shows a new portrait of George Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser, originally submitted in the 1931 design competition. Each reverse honors a woman who shaped American history, with her name and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR. Five honorees were issued each year from 2022 to 2025.
