What is a 2024-D Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter worth?
A worn 2024-D Dr. Pauli Murray is a spender: face value. A bright uncirculated one, or one with a known error, is worth setting aside.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- A die variety or minting error

Quick answers
- Is the 2024-D Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter rare?
- No. 186 million were made, a typical run for the series. Condition and varieties decide its value, not the date.
- Is the 2024-D Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2024 American Women Quarter?
- On the obverse (P, D or S). On this coin the mark is D, for Denver.
- How many 2024-D Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter coins were made?
- 185,500,000.
What to check on your 2024-D
- Make sure the mint mark really is a D. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2024-P (168 million made).
- Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2024-S Dr. Pauli Murray Quarter Proof (506,360 made) is the one to compare with.
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Modern quarters are graded on luster, strike and marks. Proofs are judged on cameo contrast.
With 186 million made, the 2024-D still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.
The story of the 2024-D Dr. Pauli Murray
Denver made 185,500,000 of the Dr. Pauli Murray quarter. Among the 5 designs of 2024 it was the second largest Denver run, between Zitkala-Ša (170 million) and Patsy Mink (187 million).
Philadelphia struck a similar number of the same design (168 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.
Across the whole program it sits 11th of 20 Denver designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Althea Gibson at 32 million.
How to recognize it
The Dr. Pauli Murray design
Pauli Murray (1910 to 1985) was a lawyer, poet, scholar and priest whose legal arguments shaped civil rights and women's rights law. Her 1951 book States' Laws on Race and Color became a key resource for lawyers challenging segregation. She helped found the National Organization for Women in 1966 and in 1977 became the first African American woman ordained an Episcopal priest. The reverse frames her face within the word HOPE, accompanied by a line from her poem Dark Testament. Emily Damstra designed it and Joseph Menna sculpted it.
The American Women Quarter design
The obverse shows a new portrait of George Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser, originally submitted in the 1931 design competition. Each reverse honors a woman who shaped American history, with her name and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR. Five honorees were issued each year from 2022 to 2025.
