What is a 2017-D Ozark Riverways Quarter worth?
A worn 2017-D Ozark Riverways is a spender: face value. A bright uncirculated one, or one with a known error, is worth setting aside.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- A die variety or minting error

Quick answers
- Is the 2017-D Ozark Riverways Quarter rare?
- No. 200 million were made, a typical run for the series. Condition and varieties decide its value, not the date.
- Is the 2017-D Ozark Riverways Quarter silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2017 America the Beautiful Quarter?
- On the obverse, to the right of Washington's ribbon. "W" quarters were struck in 2019 and 2020 and released into circulation in small numbers. On this coin the mark is D, for Denver.
- How many 2017-D Ozark Riverways Quarter coins were made?
- 200,000,000.
What to check on your 2017-D
- Make sure the mint mark really is a D. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2017-P (203 million made).
- Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2017-S Ozark Riverways Quarter Proof (629,997 made) is the one to compare with.
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.
With 200 million made, the 2017-D still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.
The story of the 2017-D Ozark Riverways
Denver made 200,000,000 of the Ozark Riverways coin. Among the 5 designs of 2017 it was the middle Denver run, between Frederick Douglass (186 million) and Effigy Mounds (211 million).
Philadelphia struck a similar number of the same design (203 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.
Across the whole program it sits 38th of 56 Denver designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Acadia at 22 million.
Elsewhere in US coinage in 2017
Philadelphia cents carried a "P" mint mark for the first time, marking the 225th anniversary of the US Mint.
How to recognize it
The Ozark Riverways design
Missouri's Ozark National Scenic Riverways, the third design of 2017, shows Alley Mill, a steel roller mill built in 1894 that ground wheat into flour. Much of its original milling equipment survives. Established in 1964, the park was the first national park area created to protect a river system, preserving the spring-fed Current and Jacks Fork rivers along with caves and springs. Ronald D. Sanders designed the reverse, which Renata Gordon sculpted.
The America the Beautiful Quarter design
Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
