What is a 2013-P Mount Rushmore Quarter worth?

A worn 2013-P Mount Rushmore is a spender: face value. A bright uncirculated one, or one with a known error, is worth setting aside.

What would make yours worth more:

  • Uncirculated condition with full original luster
  • A die variety or minting error

Quick answers

Is the 2013-P Mount Rushmore Quarter rare?
Not by date: 232 million were struck. A sharp uncirculated coin or a known variety is what makes one special.
Is the 2013-P Mount Rushmore Quarter silver?
No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
Where is the mint mark on a 2013 America the Beautiful Quarter?
On the obverse, to the right of Washington's ribbon. "W" quarters were struck in 2019 and 2020 and released into circulation in small numbers. On this coin the mark is P, for Philadelphia.
How many 2013-P Mount Rushmore Quarter coins were made?
231,800,000.

What to check on your 2013-P

  • Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2013-D (272 million made).
  • Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2013-S Mount Rushmore Quarter Proof (920,695 made) is the one to compare with.
  • A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
  • Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.

With 232 million made, the 2013-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.

The story of the 2013-P Mount Rushmore

Philadelphia made 231,800,000 of the Mount Rushmore coin. That was the biggest Philadelphia run of the 5 designs issued in 2013; White Mountain had the smallest at 69 million.

Denver struck a similar number of the same design (272 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.

Across the whole program it sits 46th of 56 Philadelphia designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Chaco Culture at 22 million.

How to recognize it

The Mount Rushmore design

South Dakota's Mount Rushmore National Memorial closes 2013. Instead of the finished monument, the reverse shows workers adding the finer details to Thomas Jefferson's face during the carving. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum directed the project from 1927 until his death in 1941, after which his son Lincoln finished the work. The memorial portrays Washington, Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Lincoln. Joseph Menna designed and sculpted the coin.

The America the Beautiful Quarter design

Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
