What is a 2013-P Great Basin Quarter worth?

In circulated condition it's worth face value. Only uncirculated coins with full original luster, or a recognized variety, carry a premium.

What would make yours worth more:

  • Uncirculated condition with full original luster
  • A die variety or minting error

For market prices, check recent sold results for certified coins in the same grade.

Quick answers

Is the 2013-P Great Basin Quarter rare?
Not by date: 122 million were struck. A sharp uncirculated coin or a known variety is what makes one special.

Where is the mint mark on a 2013 America the Beautiful Quarter?

What to check on your 2013-P

  • Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2013-D (141 million made).
  • Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2013-S Great Basin Quarter Proof (911,525 made) is the one to compare with.
  • A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
  • Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.

With 122 million made, the 2013-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.

The story of the 2013-P Great Basin

Philadelphia made 122,400,000 of the Great Basin coin. Among the 5 designs of 2013 it was the second largest Philadelphia run, between Fort McHenry (120 million) and Mount Rushmore (232 million).

Denver struck a similar number of the same design (141 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.

Across the whole program it sits 22nd of 56 Philadelphia designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Chaco Culture at 22 million.

How to recognize it

The Great Basin design

Nevada's Great Basin National Park appears on the third 2013 quarter. Its reverse shows a gnarled bristlecone pine growing among the rocky glacial moraines where these trees survive. Great Basin bristlecone pines are among the oldest living things on Earth, with some individuals more than 4,000 years old. The park, established in 1986, also includes Wheeler Peak and the marble chambers of Lehman Caves. Ronald D. Sanders designed the reverse and Renata Gordon sculpted it.

The America the Beautiful Quarter design

Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
