What is a 2011-P Chickasaw Quarter worth?

In circulated condition it's worth face value. Only uncirculated coins with full original luster, or a recognized variety, carry a premium.

What would make yours worth more:

  • Uncirculated condition with full original luster
  • A die variety or minting error

What to check on your 2011-P

  • Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2011-D (69 million made).
  • Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2011-S Chickasaw Quarter Proof (1,266,010 made) is the one to compare with.
  • A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
  • Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.

With 74 million made, the 2011-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.

The story of the 2011-P Chickasaw

Philadelphia made 73,800,000 of the Chickasaw coin. That was the biggest Philadelphia run of the 5 designs issued in 2011; Gettysburg had the smallest at 30 million.

Denver struck a similar number of the same design (69 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.

Across the whole program it sits 16th of 56 Philadelphia designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Chaco Culture at 22 million.

How to recognize it

The Chickasaw design

Oklahoma's Chickasaw National Recreation Area closes the 2011 releases with a view of the Lincoln Bridge, a limestone bridge dedicated in 1909. The site began in 1902 as the Sulphur Springs Reservation on land ceded by the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations to protect its mineral springs. It later became Platt National Park before being combined into the recreation area in 1976. Donna Weaver designed the reverse, which Jim Licaretz sculpted.

The America the Beautiful Quarter design

Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
