What is a 2019-P Roosevelt Dime worth?
A worn 2019-P is a spender: face value. A bright uncirculated one, or one with a known error, is worth setting aside.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- Full torch bands (FT)
- A die variety or minting error

Quick answers
- Is the 2019-P Roosevelt Dime rare?
- Not by date: 1.1 billion were struck. A sharp uncirculated coin or a known variety is what makes one special.
- Is the 2019-P Roosevelt Dime silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Dimes dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2019 Roosevelt Dime?
- On the obverse, just above the date. "P" appears from 1980. On this coin the mark is P, for Philadelphia.
- Which Philadelphia dates near 2019 are scarcer?
- The 2024-P at 307,000,000, the 2014-P at 1,125,000,000. So the 2019-P is on the scarcer side for those years.
- How many 2019-P Roosevelt Dime coins were made?
- 1,147,500,000.
What to check on your 2019-P
- Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2019-D (1 billion made).
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Check the horizontal bands on the torch on the reverse. "Full Bands" (FB) coins, where the bands are complete and separated, carry big premiums. On the obverse look at Roosevelt's hair above the ear.
With 1.1 billion made, the 2019-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.
The story of the 2019-P
Philadelphia made 1,147,500,000 in 2019, about the same as the year before. In 2020 the figure was 1.3 billion.
2019-D came to 1 billion, so neither mint's 2019 coin is much scarcer than the other.
Across Philadelphia's 80 Roosevelt Dime issues, the hardest to find is the 1955 with 12,450,181 made. The 2019-P is one of the easier ones. Within the 2010s it's 12th smallest of 20, between the 2014-P (1.1 billion) and the 2014-D (1.2 billion).
Recession lows and anniversary specials (2009 to 2025)
The recession of 2009 cut demand sharply. The Mint struck only about 96.5 million dimes at Philadelphia and 49.5 million at Denver, the lowest combined total since 1955. Output recovered quickly. In 2015 a March of Dimes set paired a silver proof dime from West Point with a silver reverse proof dime from Philadelphia. A 2017-S enhanced uncirculated dime followed in a set marking the Mint's 225th anniversary.
Silver proof dimes changed from 90 percent to .999 fine silver in 2019. Circulation mintages stayed above one billion per mint every year from 2013 through 2023, then dropped in 2024 to about 307 million at Philadelphia and 248 million at Denver. Output in 2025 stayed well below the earlier peaks. Low mintage West Point and San Francisco specials are the scarce coins of this era, while off-center strikes and clipped planchets are the usual finds in modern rolls.
Elsewhere in US coinage in 2019
The West Point Mint struck quarters with a "W" mint mark for the first time and released them into circulation to encourage people to search their change.
How to recognize it
Franklin Roosevelt faces left with LIBERTY in front of him, IN GOD WE TRUST below his chin and the date at the lower right. The designer's initials JS sit below the neck. The reverse shows a torch flanked by an olive branch and an oak branch, with E PLURIBUS UNUM across the field. The mint mark was to the left of the torch base until 1964 and has been above the date since 1968.
