Its silver content sets the floor. Collectors add a small premium on top for this issue. Condition decides how much.

What would make yours worth more:

What to check on your 2010-S

  • Make sure the mint mark really is an S. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2010-D (35 million made).
  • Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.

Proofs from 2010 come with and without frosted devices. Coins with strong contrast are labeled Cameo or Deep Cameo and are worth more.

The story of the 2010-S Yosemite

Elsewhere in US coinage in 2010

The Union Shield reverse replaced the Lincoln Memorial on the cent. The America the Beautiful quarters began, honoring a national park or site in every state and territory.

How to recognize it

The Yosemite design

Representing California, the third 2010 release depicts El Capitan, the granite monolith that rises about 3,000 feet above the floor of Yosemite Valley. Inscriptions read YOSEMITE, CALIFORNIA, 2010 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. In 1864 President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant protecting the valley and the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias. Yosemite became a national park in 1890. Joseph Menna designed the reverse, which Phebe Hemphill sculpted.

The America the Beautiful Quarter design

Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
